Past trauma affects many aspects of one's life. Not only can it impact one's belief system, thought processing, mindset and defensive behaviour, but also the very basic structure of the nerve system and brain. In turn, consciously and unconsciously, these effects are passed down from one generation to the next.
Working with parents offers us a unique opportunity for intervention to help them heal and let go of some of that trauma's intergenerational effect.
But it isn't just the client's past trauma that is present in the room. We, as therapists, bring our own past trauma to the shared space as well. How can we understand our own story and how can we support clients to develop empowering stories for themselves and their children?
In this two hour talk, Dr Kalanit Ben-Ari will share her learnings and experience of working with trauma, both with couples and parents, for the past 20 years.
You will gain insights about the theoretical concepts and latest evidence of intergenerational trauma, in addition to practical intervention ideas to explore with clients.
